Dear Third Grade Families,
I hope everyone is well. Here’s a look at what's coming up this week, 10/13-10/17. Please make sure to read all important information to avoid questions that are clearly stated on all emails. I would greatly appreciate it! If you missed my email last week, you can check out my school blog; http://www.stanthonygardena.org/third-grade/
Thank you for taking the time to meet with me during our Parent-Teacher Conferences. I truly appreciated the opportunity to connect with you and discuss your child’s progress, strengths, and goals for the school year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you ever have any questions or need additional support. I look forward to continuing to work together to help your child grow and succeed this year!

Recommended Books and Reading Apps for Students
During our recent Parent-Teacher Conferences, some parents asked for recommendations for books that students can read at home. You can always visit your local bookstore, where students can choose from a wide variety of books.
When purchasing a book for your child to support their AR progress, please make sure it is within their reading level or ZPD. Here is a helpful list of book recommendations to get you started:
Book list: Best Books for Third Graders – Common Sense Media
Additionally, some parents asked about applications where students can read e-books instead of purchasing physical copies. Here are a few apps you might consider:
These apps offer a variety of age-appropriate books that can support your child’s reading growth from home.
Natural History Museum fieldtrip
We have our upcoming 3rd & 4th Grade field trip to the Natural History Museum, happening in October 24th. The total cost is $20 per student, which covers both the program fee and bus transportation. All payments must be made in the office. If you plan to send the payment with your child, please make sure to place it in an envelope, with your child’s name and put “3rd grade NHM fee”

All Saints’ Day dress-up- Wednesday, October 29
On Oct. 29, Students may come to school dressed up as ANY Saint. Saint costumes do not need to be elaborate! We will have an All-School mass on this day instead of Friday. Students will process in Mass with their class in their costumes. Costumes should go over your child’s school uniform, as we will be changing after Mass. Dressing up will be part of their Religion participation and work habits grade.
Oct 31- Halloween Costumes:
To ensure that all costumes follow our school's Halloween guidelines, I ask that you let me know what costume your child plans to wear on October 31. Costumes must be appropriate and pre-approved, or a student may be sent home to change. Please share your child’s costume by Friday, October 24. using the link below,

We will be having a costume contest on 10/31 and there will be prizes for the Top 10 costumes.
Let's remember that Halloween originated as All Hallow's Eve, where students dressed up as saints. We will dress up as Saints this year on Wed 10/29, since All Saints' Day falls on a Saturday (11/1) this year. Please help us keep Halloween HOLY and CLEAN so we can continue to have this treasured tradition at our Catholic School. As many of you know, the preschool sisters do not celebrate Halloween across the street, but we would like to continue this at our school as long as it's a fun and wholesome experience for our K-8 students.
