First Grade - First Week of School (26-27)

Dear First Grade Families,
I am excited to begin this new academic year together! Here are some important reminders to help your child have a smooth and successful start for the week of 8/18-8/21. I ask everyone to please read all the information I post or email to avoid questions covered in detail by the email and posts I have put out.
FIRST DAY JITTERS
As students are returning to school, they may feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. To get rid of those first day jitters, we will be doing a jitter juice activity that involves the following ingredients students will have a small cup of:
1. Shasta
2. Hawaiian Punch
3. Powerade
4. Edible glitter
Please respond to allow or to exempt your child from participating in this activity. Students are allowed to pass on this activity themselves as well.
FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL 8/18-8/21
We have NOON DISMISSAL (12 noon) this week, DAYCARE is available from 12-6pm, please let the office know. If your child is staying in daycare, kindly make sure they bring their own lunch.
Students may arrive as early as 7:30am and tardy bell is at 7:50am. After walking your child to the classroom they must wait and SIT on the blue bench in front of the classroom quietly or they may stand on their student number shown on the tentative roster. Students should not play nor run around in the morning.
Please NO lingering around the classroom and congregating. Please note that parents will not be allowed in the classroom unless you have a scheduled meeting with me or is helping your child to drop of some items in class.
Know that for security purposes, ALL Gates will be closed at 8am daily, after the 7:50 tardy bell rings. We will secure the campus at that time.
PICK UP/ DROP OFF
Morning Drop-Off- Grades K-1: Students should be walked to their classroom. Upon arrival, 1st grade must sit on the blue bench in front of the classroom until asked to line up and wait for the 7:50 am attendance. The tardy bell rings at 7:50 am.
- Arrival Time: Please DO NOT drop off children before 7:30 am, as there is no adult supervision before that time.
- Entry/Exit: Enter through the Berendo gate and park in the parking lot to walk your child to the classroom.
- Please DO NOT park in front of the preschool or in the red zones.
- Grades K-1: 1st graders will be dismissed from the classroom. Please line up in front of the classroom as the teacher dismisses each student one by one to ensure each child is safely picked up and accounted for.
- Multiple Children: If you have multiple children, the oldest sibling will join the youngest sibling at their designated pick-up spot.
TEMPORARY ROSTER
I will be putting our temporary roster outside our classroom for students to check where to put their backpacks, I will be assisting them with this. Please know that our roster is still NOT finalized. Students’ numbers may still change, please do not label your child’s materials with their number, you can label it with their name. I will let all families know once we have the finalized roster. Hopefully, I can assign the numbers to the students in 2 weeks.
FREE DRESS
Students may wear PROPER free dress this week. Free dress clothing must be neat and modest. Parents/guardians are responsible to ensure that students are dressed in a manner suitable for Catholic school students. Students should observe good habits of grooming and personal hygiene and appropriate attire at all times.
The following are NOT appropriate at any time:- attire with inappropriate text or images
- Crop tops, tank tops, shirts with holes
- Flip-flops, open toed shoes or bare feet
- Overly torn/frayed, sagging pants
- Colored/Dyed Hair or Extreme hairstyles
- Nail Polish
- Long dangling earrings or large hoops

Friday, Aug 21- All School Mass
We will have an All-School Mass on Friday, Aug. 21st. Kindly make sure your child wears appropriate Sunday Best dress (No sleeveless, very short dress, shorts, ripped pants) Please check the guidelines for more information.
WHAT TO BRING ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Please bring all/ complete school supplies on Tuesday Aug 19th, labeled with your child's name, not their number.- First Grade Summer Packet
- Complete Personal supplies
- Snacks & water bottle
COMMUNITY SUPPLIES
If you haven’t dropped them off, please bring them at dismissal (not morning drop-off) or bring it on Friday afternoon, Aug 21st.
PARENT IMPORTANT FORMS
On the first day of school, your child will be bringing home several important forms that require your attention. These forms need to be read, completed, and signed.
Please note: All completed and signed forms are due back to the school by Friday, August 21st.
To show our appreciation for your prompt attention to these forms, students who return all the completed forms by the due date will earn a Free Dress Pass. Forms with missing information will not earn a pass so kindly double check everything. I will give out the free dress pass by Tuesday, Aug 25th. I will need time to go over and check each form.

- M, T, Th, F- 3:00pm
- W- 1:30pm
PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK
Parents, kindly make sure to read our school’s handbook. The pages of the Parent/Student Handbook are filled with important information regarding school policy and procedures. Parents and students should review the contents together. If you have any questions, please call the school office. We feel that open and clear communication between school and home is important to the success of our educational program.

Choice Lunch starts 8/24/26 (Monday)
Hot lunch service begins on Monday, 8/24/26. Please make sure to place your orders online in advance!

BOOK FEES
Book Fees are due before the 2nd week of school. Your child's books will not be distributed till this fee is cleared. Please reach out to Mr. Carlos Aguilar regarding this matter.

Email is the best way to contact me for any questions or concerns. I will do my best to respond to emails within 24 hours.
Please note that my office hours are 7:30 AM–4:00 PM. If you send an email outside of my office hours, please allow me up to 24 hours to respond.
During school hours, I am actively teaching and attending to my students, so I may not be able to check or respond to emails immediately. If your concern requires an immediate response during the school day, please contact the school office so they can notify me.
